So, I’m Rebooting May 1

As I mentioned last time I wrote on this subject, I’ve been debating whether or not to take part in the May 1 CSS Reboot. Last night while waiting for something to upload, I cracked open my most recent PSD of the homepage layout, dated October 16, 2005. Roughly two-and-a-half hours later, I had made a fair bit of progress and was feeling good about where it seems to be going. I immediately made my way over to the CSS Reboot site and signed up. You see, if I don’t have a deadline, I don’t get shit done. And hey, the November 1 CSS Reboot helped me roll this bad boy out, so let’s see how May 1 does for my personal domain.

Wondering what I have in store? Me too! To be honest, I’m not entirely sure just yet. I have a lot of ideas and a to-do list a few dozen items long. The majority of my time spent last night was on content positioning for the homepage. Something I’ve been meaning to get to for a couple months now. Shifting focus and experimenting with size and colour. I’ve already increased the contrast a bit by brightening the colours (believe it or not).

One idea I’ve been toying with that I’d like to get some feedback on is how I present reviews. I’m stoked on the layout I have for game reviews now, but I’m thinking more along the lines of actually separating reviews from regular blog posts and making them their own entity. Basically, I put a lot of work into them. The video footage takes quite a while to capture, edit and encode. And I usually spend a good hour to hour-and-a-half writing the review itself. For this reason alone, I like to keep them on the homepage a little longer than I would a straight up, off-the-top-of-my-head post. To counter this, I’ve also considered introducing asides. But then again, since my sidebar is fairly lengthy on post pages, I’m almost bound to writing decent length entries. I also realize that I have swayed way over in the direction of gaming more than anything else, especially over the past couple months. For this reason, I’d like to get more ‘off-topic’ entries flowing and was thinking asides could do the trick here as well.

I posted a little teaser in the CSS Reboot Flickr pool last night. Things are getting interesting up in there! Also, skim through the Rebooters list (which is nearing 1000!) and I’m sure you’ll see some familiar names.

Oh, I almost forgot! Things are going very well on the FeedIcons.com front. We have two more developers on board now and we’re working on some pretty awesome stuff! Clay Loveless of Feedster/Killersoft/Pearified volunteered his services as well as ColourMod‘s Stephen Hallgren. I’ve come pretty close to wrapping up the design and the backend stuff has been moving along in tandem, so things are looking good and I’m pretty confident that we’ll hit the May 1 deadline. Right – I entered FeedIcons.com in the CSS Reboot as well. Did I forget to mention that? 😛
