Feed Icon: And Then There Were Two

Last week I updated FeedIcons.com for the first time since I launched it back in December. I was hoping to have a full international site up and running a short time after the initial launch, but it never happened. It's still in the works and slowly but surely getting there.

Feed Icon: Trademark, Agreement, Guidelines, what?

It's been quiet on the Feed Icon front for the past few months. After releasing the download package and creating feedicons.com, the thing spread like wild fire! I was expecting the blogging community to jump on board without a doubt, but the widespread adoption has been incredible.

Rebooted!

Well, here we are. A day early (just like last time) with a fresh, new site. Well, sort of. If you've been here before, you're no doubt squinting due to the brightness. I'm sure you weren't expecting to see a site of mine on anything but a black background. I really wanted to do something drastic, but at the same time, maintain the level of organization that has brought me so much love. Hence the white background, but familiar three column layout.

You Can Always Tell…

when a blogger is working on a new site. Posting becomes nearly non-existent and I must apologize for that. Whenever I saw someone neglecting their site because they're working on a new design I said to myself that I would never do that. Well it seems I'm no better, but I now understand why this happens. The fact of the matter is - launching a new design for a blog is a lot of work. Especially if you have a fairly customized installation and are running a lot of plugins, which I am. It takes a lot of planning and there are several areas which require tons of attention to detail.

So, I’m Rebooting May 1

As I mentioned last time I wrote on this subject, I've been debating whether or not to take part in the May 1 CSS Reboot. Last night while waiting for something to upload, I cracked open my most recent PSD of the homepage layout, dated October 16, 2005. Roughly two-and-a-half hours later, I had made a fair bit of progress and was feeling good about where it seems to be going. I immediately made my way over to the CSS Reboot site and signed up. You see, if I don't have a deadline, I don't get shit done. And hey, the November 1 CSS Reboot helped me roll this bad boy out, so let's see how May 1 does for my personal domain.

FeedIcons.com Update

Since January has almost come and gone and the full FeedIcons.com site is yet to be unveiled, I figured I should probably post a bit of an update on the situation. First off, I'm still floored by the response to this all. I really didn't expect it to take off as it did, but I'm sure glad it has. I've seen the icon being used on websites from around the world in various languages. Some of the more well known web services have picked up on it and even some popular desktop software for both Mac and PC. The icon itself has been downloaded around 20,000 times from the site, which is not bad at all for being online for just over a month. I had full intentions of taking on the site on my own, but once I started brainstorming I realized that wouldn't be possible. A few months ago I started up a new business with a couple close friends of mine. Due to our conflicting and ridiculously busy schedules, we're yet to roll out any projects under the new banner.

Introducing FeedIcons.com

I knew while I was working on reproducing the feed icon that some folks would find it useful. I had no idea it would take off as it did! I'm extremely stoked that so many people have embraced it and accepted it as the new standard icon. Feels great knowing that I've created something that others can benefit from - all for the sake of a better internet. A ton of eyeballs have seen this site in the past 48 hours and that's rad as hell - but who wants to read some dude's long-winded article and have to scroll all the way to the bottom of it to download the icon package? Figured that this icon is important enough to give it a proper home. And thus, I present to you feedicons.com.
