The Return of the Black

I did something tonight that I have never done before. I thought about changing my site back to the black design and just went ahead and did it. I didn’t second guess myself, I didn’t try and work it into my schedule. I dropped what I was doing and sat here for a solid 7 hour stretch and just fuckin’ did it. So, why the change?

Introducing FeedIcons.com

I knew while I was working on reproducing the feed icon that some folks would find it useful. I had no idea it would take off as it did! I’m extremely stoked that so many people have embraced it and accepted it as the new standard icon. Feels great knowing that I’ve created something that others can benefit from - all for the sake of a better internet.

feediconsA ton of eyeballs have seen this site in the past 48 hours and that’s rad as hell - but who wants to read some dude’s long-winded article and have to scroll all the way to the bottom of it to download the icon package? Figured that this icon is important enough to give it a proper home. And thus, I present to you feedicons.com.

The New Standard Feed Icon

On December 14, the Microsoft RSS Team made an announcement on their blog. This announcement is extremely important on many levels and I’m really surprised there hasn’t been more talk about it. And as such, I figured I would take this opportunity to jump all over that shit and try and get things moving! So what was so important, you ask?

I’m excited to announce that we’re adopting the icon used in Firefox. John and Chris were very enthusiastic about allowing us (and anyone in the community) to use their icon. This isn’t the first time that we’ve worked with the Mozilla team to exchange ideas and encourage consistency between browsers, and we’re sure it won’t be the last.

I was pretty excited myself, when I read the post. Partly because there is a chance we might seen an end to those horrid XML and RSS buttons. But mostly because Microsoft is doing the right thing. They realize Mozilla has already established an identity for syndicated content through Firefox and listened to what users had to say about their proposed icons.

Reboot: The Aftermath

Where do I start? The past few days have been incredible around these parts! I joined the CSS Reboot back in August mainly to motivate myself to actually do something with this site and to get my portfolio online (which is on the way). When mid-October rolled around and I was still working on the design, I considered backing out. I had already done tons of planning and research and had some new tricks up my sleeve that I was dying to try out, so I stuck it out - worked many late nights and through weekends…

IE 7 Beta First Impressions

Microsoft announced the first stage of their beta testing for Internet Explorer 7 today - which is a closed beta, intended for developers. How did I get it? There’s this wonderful thing called BitTorrent - you might have heard of it.

Anyway, things didn’t start out so good for my testing experience. I didn’t listen to Microsoft when they told me to close all my applications I had running because, well… it’s never been a problem before. I usually keep working in Photoshop or Dreamweaver while installing a game in the background. But that’s beside the point…
