Nintendo Tries, When it Counts

I had been thinking about reviewing Mario Kart Wii since I picked it up a few weeks ago, but didn’t really have much to say about it. The first time I sat down to write a quick draft, I started the title with, “Mario Kart Wii is More of the Same…” Hold the phone! This seems all too familiar. The following day, Ryan Davis (formerly of GameSpot) over at Giant Bomb wrote about Mario Kart Wii and totally hit the nail on the head. The bottom line, is that Nintendo has stopped evolving their successful franchises,…

No E3 ‘07 Reflections From Me

Every year since I started this blog, I’ve followed up E3 with my own reflections on the major platforms and up-coming games. Last year I wrote at length on the hardware and software Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony’s brought to the event. But, I’ve decided to skip this year. I really didn’t see a whole lot that impressed me. I feel re-assured that the Xbox 360 is the platform with the most promise, both now and in future, but Nintendo and Sony really failed to impress me yet again. So much so, that I couldn’t even bring…

Nintendo Wii is a Gimmicky Toy for the Whole Family… Almost

I apologize if you’re sick of hearing me talk about the Wii. I’m almost positive this will be the last time for a while.

We’re nearing the end of our third week with the Nintendo Wii and it’s seen a fair bit of use. There have been stretches of 3 or 4 days in a row that it hasn’t been touched, though. I can’t say I’ve gone longer than 24 hours without turning on my Xbox 360 in the year that I’ve had it. So that says something right there. If you haven’t caught on by now,…

Wii Had Our First Accident

On the eve of my wife’s 28th birthday, we decided to get a little silly. She’s been joking about turning 28 and being all serious from then on. We didn’t have much planned for tonight - caught up on some TV that we hadn’t gotten to yet this week. This week’s episode of Lost was great, BTW. About time, too! And The Black Donnellys is looking like it’s going to be my new favourite show. But anyway, a pretty quiet, relaxing evening spent on the couch with a drink in hand. Once Lost was over, I picked…

Hey Nintendo, Where are the Wii Accessories?

The Wii’s been getting a fair amount of use since I picked it up nearly 2 weeks ago. Admittedly, a bit less recently since GRAW 2 has pretty much completely stolen the thunder. None the less, we’ve just about worn down the batteries in one of the Wiimotes. On my lunch break the other day I took a trip down to the local Best Buy to grab a couple rechargeable battery packs. To my surprise, aside from the Wifi USB adapter and the different controllers and cables, Nintendo has no accessories available. However, they were…

New Super Mario Bros. 5

New Super Mario Bros: Review

Nintendo looks back to their roots and brings us a Super Mario Bros. mash-up that brings elements from all of the previous games in the series, as well as some new tricks and mini-games that will keep you playing for hours on end.

The Good: Pure old school, side scrolling Mario action. Best looking Mario platformer to date. Familiar music and sound effects incorporated into gameplay. Tons of mini-games that make great use of the touch-screen and mic. It retails for $15 less than most Nintendo DS games. It’s just plain fun!

The Bad: We had to wait 15…

Post E3 2006 Thoughts: Nintendo

While Sony failed to impress with their lack of innovation and effort, Nintendo came out swinging and left me with a huge smile on my face. Even though the majority of the games they’ve been showcasing don’t appeal to me in the least, I’m still extremely stoked on the Nintendo Wii and the direction Nintendo is headed in the next generation of console gaming. It didn’t take long to get over the name (Wii) and even less time to convince me that the Wiimote/nunchaku controller is the way to go. It’s apparent that Nintendo has a clear vision of where they’re going and they’re serious about changing the way we game.

Classic Nintendo Theme Songs - A Cappella

I’m pretty sure… this is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen!

Resident Evil 4 5

Resident Evil 4: Review

Being a huge fan of the Resident Evil series since RE 2 was released on the Playstation many moons ago - I could hardly wait for RE 4 to be released! Last weekend I rented it and Deanna and I played it Friday, Saturday and Sunday night for a few hours each. It’s such a great game, I hardly know where to start.
