I’ve had mixed emotions towards the latest installation in the Battlefield franchise, Bad Company. Mostly due to my history with the series. I played Battlefield 1942 to death. Battlefield Vietnam saw quite a bit of action on my old PC gaming rig as well. By the time Battlefield 2 came out, my PC was a bit behind the times and struggled to keep up, so I didn’t play too much. After jumping the PC gaming ship, I picked up Battlefield: Modern Combat when it was re-released on the Xbox 360. I had some fun with…

Some big news was announced a couple days ago in the land of video games. The former PC/PS3 exclusive Unreal Tournament 2007 is now headed to the Xbox 360 and has been renamed, Unreal Tournament 3. Wait, what? Now, it’s been a while since I’ve been in school so my math skills are a little hazy, but doesn’t 3+1=4? I’ve been a fan of the UT series since it’s debut and have all current releases sitting next to me as I type this. All 3 of them - Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2003 and Unreal Tournament 2004. Notice, there’s no Unreal Tournament 2 in that list and there’s also 3 of them.

Nearly a month ago (April 11, to be exact), Battlefield 2 Modern Combat was released for the Xbox 360. As I’ve mentioned a couple times before, I was a huge fan of the first couple Battlefield games but had major problems with Battlefield 2 for the PC. It seemed every time a patch was released, I would end up spending a couple hours trying to get the game running again which normally resulted in me abandoning the game out of frustration. Although Modern Combat is not the same game as the PC version, I was really hoping that I could catch up the time I missed out on and finally enjoy the Battlefield series again. Unfortunately, I’m lead down the same path of repeated disappointments.

For as long as I’ve been a PC gamer, I’ve spent about equal time hating it as I have loving it.
I really wish I could just let it go - pick up an Xbox 360 and never look back.
That was me, 4 months ago. 2 nights ago - Thursday, March 9 2006, I kicked the habit. First thing Friday morning, I went out and bought a 360 and have been playing the shit out Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter all weekend and couldn’t be happier!
I have many beefs with PC gaming, which is no secret. But the big one that hurts the most is the cost associated with it. I simply can’t afford to do a complete overhaul every year and a half or so and the penalty for saving your pennies is too great to put myself through any longer.

I love playing games on my PC, I really do. But at the same time, I find myself completely frustrated with it on a regular basis. I’m sure I’m not alone on this, but here’s some of the main issues I have with PC gaming…
Hardware
It seems no matter what you put in your case or how much cash you drop on it - you never reach that stage where you can simply fire up any game you feel like playing and get the best experience possible out of it. There’s always tweaking to be done…

When I left off, I still had some significant PC hardware to pick up. I’ve since upgraded to a 520 W PSU and a P4 3.2 GHZ processor. Battlefield 2 is running pretty smooth now. I could still use some more ram, but that’ll come in time. I love getting new hardware because it always gets me playing games I haven’t touched in months. Going back to Far Cry with all the details maxed is like an entirely new experience. Considering I didn’t even finish it my first time around as it start chugging really bad and…

It’s been a slow month around these parts. Mainly do the madness that is the MMVAs. I’ve had a hard time keeping motivated as it seemed like the day job was sucking every last drop of life out of me. But that’s over and done with for another year, so it’s time to get back on track!
Over the past month, I’ve been trying to sway myself away from PC gaming. I’ve gone over the pros and cons of both PC gaming and console gaming and on many levels, console gaming is the better way to…

I’ve been into the Battlefield series since the first installment, Battlefield 1942. Aside from the original Half-Life, BF 1942 was probably the game I’ve spent most hours playing. I was totally hooked on it. BF Vietnam, not as much. To be honest, I wasn’t looking forward to BF 2 in the least. BF Vietnam never ran all that great on my system and was pretty buggy. I figured BF 2 would be a write-off. But so far, so good! The demo runs great! Mind you, I have all my settings on medium and low with the resolution at 1024×768, but it looks surprisingly good and plays perfect.
