The Resident Evil series is one that you either love or hate. There doesn’t seem to be much in between, and for obvious reasons such as strict control schemes, odd camera angels, and a clunky inventory system that make Resident Evil 5, like it’s predecessors, feel a little out-dated. My first venture into the RE series was back in 1998 with RE2 on the original PlayStation. Since then, I’ve played all of the GameCube remakes and of course, the critically acclaimed RE4. Over the years I’ve watched the series evolve and have appreciated the…

When the hotly anticipated Resident Evil 5 demo hit the Xbox Live Marketplace early last week, I added it to my queue first thing in the morning so I could play as soon as my work day was done. Being a long time fan of the series, and having played through Resident Evil 4 at least 3 or 4 times, I’ve been itching to get in on some new anti-Umbrella action. The fact that this is the first Resident…

When I first caught wind of Dead Space, I brushed it off pretty quickly. It seemed like we were in for yet another dark shooter set in a stagnant industrial environment, with loads of ugly alien beings jumping out at you. Actually, that’s exactly what it is, but in a really good way. Think Doom 3’s environments, Resident Evil 4’s over-the-shoulder camera angel, storytelling via audio and text logs ala BioShock, the…

A mall full of zombies and countless items you can use as weapons… can you think of a better scenario?
The Good: Impressive graphics and excellent sound effects. Hundreds of zombies on-screen and the framerate barely stutters. Massive variety of weapons to annihilate the undead with. Lots of bonus objectives that are good for achievements and add to the replay value. The story is pretty good with lots of twists. Voice acting is well done for the most part.
The Bad: OTIS!!! Insanely small on-screen text for dialog and objectives. Required to level up right…

The past few weeks have been so insanely busy for me. I know I’ve said this before, but I really don’t think I’ve ever had so much to do in my entire life. I’ve been working so much that I actually grew intolerant to my chair. I would sit down and immediately stand back up. Just couldn’t do it any more. And since this chair is home base for work and play, I found myself in need of a new avenue for entertainment. Since selling my Xbox back in July and Hannah claiming the GameCube as her own, I’ve only really had my PC for gaming. For whatever reason, I haven’t been into watching movies for months now and we might have rented a handful of movies since the summer. Deanna and I used to watch a few movies a week, but for whatever reason, that just stopped. I decided it was time to re-establish some old relationships with my DVD player, GameCube and even picked up another Xbox. And that would be a regular old Xbox, not a 360. Even if I wanted to get an Xbox 360 right now, I couldn’t as they’re still, 2 months after launch, hard to come by. Now that’s just fuckin’ ridiculous!

Being a huge fan of the Resident Evil series since RE 2 was released on the Playstation many moons ago – I could hardly wait for RE 4 to be released! Last weekend I rented it and Deanna and I played it Friday, Saturday and Sunday night for a few hours each. It’s such a great game, I hardly know where to start.
