I’ve often referred to the holiday season as “My Favourite Time of Year“, and that’s due to the onslaught of new games we’re showered with for what seems like weeks on end. But this year, I’ve discovered the joys of the down season – a time when I would normally be looking ahead to distant releases impatiently. This year has been different, and I’ve quite enjoyed these past couple months. Since reviewing games is a pretty big focus of this blog, I tend to play through them quickly so I can get my…

In Call of Duty: World at War, the series makes a jump back to World War 2 and development was handled by the folks at Treyarch. Call of Duty originated with Infinity Ward, who handled the first, second, and fourth games. Treyarch developed the Xbox/PS2 exclusive titles a few years back, along with Call of Duty 3. In other words, Treyarch are the filler studio who produce the less than stellar games between Infinity Ward releases. At least, that’s how I viewed them before I…

Aside from a couple of the big guys in the gaming industry, I don’t indulge in year end top XX lists. In fact, I’ve hit “mark all as read” in my feed reader more times over this past week than I likely did over the course of this year. But for some reason, I felt like doing a year end list of my own. It goes without sayings that Gears of War 2 is a great game. Epic has taken Gears of War and improved every aspect that could have used some tweaking, added a whole pile of new enemies, weapons, game modes, and completely changed the landscape. At the same time, expanding Unreal Engine 3’s capabilities to allow for bigger and more brutal battles. Gears of War 2 steps it up a notch on every level, and just like its predecessor, will remain in my collection indefinitely.

While my dead Xbox 360 sits in my entertainment unit, and with the release date for Gears of War 2 drawing closer, I had come to accept the possibility of missing the boat on November 7. Looking for an upside to this dismal situation, I turned to PlayStation 3’s hallmark shooter, Resistance 2. With a release date just a few days prior to GOW2 (November 4), I began watching trailers and developer interviews hoping to get excited about this game, whose prequel didn’t do much for me. Resistance 2 packs tons of…

Every year post-E3, I like to write about the event and talk about all the things that got me excited. For one reason or another, I didn’t get around to it this year. That’s not to say that I wasn’t paying attention – I had a browser window open with streaming video of each of the big three press conferences as they happened. And that’s not to say that there wasn’t anything significant to talk about. Believe it or not, Sony impressed the pants off me this year! Not only did they have a lot…
