A balanced debate?

Somewhere along my journeys across the ol’ Interweb, I stumbled across a McDonald’s big box ad that with the phrase ‘A balanced diet. A balanced debate.’ My initial reaction was ‘Whoa, cool! They’re encouraging people to discuss their shitty food and it’s negative effects on you. That’s mighty brave of them.‘ Yeah, not so much. In the place of what should be a public forum, is a one-sided, carefully-worded piece of corporate propaganda put in place to extinguish the flames incited by Super Size Me.

After reading the ‘What do we think?’ section, I made my way over to the True or False. One of which was…

True or False: “That film ‘Super Size Me’ has really got McDonald’s on the run.”

Answer: False

After I was able to calm my laughter to a mild chuckle, my eyes glanced to the bottom of the screen where ‘facts’ were scrolling from right to left. Some of which are…

  • May 2004 – McDonald’s reduce salt by 23% in French Fries, 10% in all Hamburgers and 30% in Ketchup.
  • May 2004 – McDonald’s launch McNuggets made exclusively from white chicken breast and 30% less salt.

When did Super Size Me hit theatres? May 2004.

Enough said.

Super Size Me was released on DVD this past Thursday. Check it out.
