I haven’t written about many downloadable titles, despite having purchased dozens. I’m sure exactly why that is, but Limbo is just too great of an experience for me to let slip by without a mention. With a complete lack of colour in its bleak visual style, no music to be heard, and no weapons to wield. It’s quite possibly the simplest game from top to bottom, when you step back and really look at it. But that’s not to say there isn’t much of a game here. For Limbo is a game I will remember for years to come, I have no doubt.

Every year Microsoft holds a little get-together in Toronto around this time to showcase the games and other new things that are headed to their platform in the coming months. X’09 took place a couple days ago, and I was lucky enough to get an invite. Expectations were high, as I’ve been to a few X’0 events in the past and they seemed to get bigger every year. I suppose 2009 is the exception, as it definitely wasn’t as packed with looming holiday blockbusters as previous years. But it was great to get out…

With August being such a busy month, I wasn’t able to find time to review a couple games that I played during that time. Typically, the summer months are a bit of a drought when it comes to new game releases, and this year was no exception. It seems the folks at Microsoft have picked up on this and hold their bigger Xbox Live Arcade title releases until July and August, dubbing these months the “Summer of Arcade.” For the second year running, we’ve been treated to some excellent games topping out at 1200 Microsoft Points. Trials HD being one that grabbed my attention, and that of plenty of my Xbox Live friends.

It’s been nearly 7 years since the release of Battlefield 1942, but I often find myself looking back on the countless hours I spent playing that game with fond memories. It was not only a blast to play, but also quite influential in that it paved the way for many online conquest style games to follow. Needless to say, I was just a little excited when I caught wind of Battlefield 1943 – a pseudo remake of this classic game. Now it’s here, in our hands, and it’s bloody brilliant!

If you guessed Geometry Wars, you’re absolutely right! This past Wednesday, Xbox 360 gamers were treated to yet another top notch exclusive title on Xbox Live Arcade – Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2. Everything that brought GW success and popularity is fully in-tact, but every aspect of the game has been tweaked to as close to perfection as possible. With the exception of the absence of an online multiplayer mode, GW2 kicks ass on every level and will definitely satisfy fans of the series.

I was busy working away today while X’06 was getting underway in Barcelona so I didn’t tune in to any of the live video feeds and I haven’t had my feed reader open all day. Just as I was wrapping up before dinner a press release dropped in my inbox titled “Xbox 360 Ushers in Exclusive New Worlds of Entertainment for Most-Anticipated Franchises Ever at X06“. Press releases are always over-hyped, so I opened it up with a snarky grin on my face as I rolled my eyes. That grin was slapped off my face repeatedly as I was hit with headline after headline of absolutely massive news!
