Wicked Fast App Switching in OS X with Logitech’s MX Revolution

Being a Windows user for so many years, one of the things about OS X that always bothered me was all the floating windows all over the desktop. For the most part in Windows, you run applications “maximized” and therefore, you hardly ever see the desktop. In OS X, you can always see the desktop. Small detail, big hurdle. Being a web designer, I have a few select apps I run all day long that I need quick access to. At some points, I find myself switching between the lot of them and bouncing back …

Last week I wrote about my recent purchase of the Xbox 360 controller for Windows, most notably, the lack of support from Microsoft and the inability to tweak it. Not that this should come as a surprise to any Windows user. But still quite disappointing.

Since then, I’ve received quite a few hits from people searching phrases like “xbox 360 controller deadzone”, “configure xbox 360 controller for windows”, “xbox 360 controller for windows mapping”, etc. Needless to say, I’m not the only one been who’s looking for a solution. I may be able to wait to drop a few hundred on an Xbox 360, but I couldn’t resist picking up a controller to use on my PC. They don’t come cheap – I paid close to $60 (CDN) and I almost wish I hadn’t.

For whatever reason, there hasn’t been a whole lot of chatter on this topic. Which is why I was so eager to pick one up. I have a couple Logitech gamepads, but they’re nowhere near as good as the Xbox controller. Since the first time I squeezed those triggers, I’ve never looked back. Best game controller design ever! Especially for racing games. With most gamepads, it’s all or nothing. With an Xbox controller, the triggers act as a third axis (z) allowing you to apply as much or little pressure as desired. Since I’ve been playing Need For Speed Most Wanted a lot these days, I was itching for those triggers and picked up a 360 controller on release day.

I’ve finally got my filthy paws on a Mac. A Mini to be exact. But this tiny little machine is not to be snickered at. It may be small, but it packs a punch in the form of an elegant and beautiful operating system, where all the applications live in harmony and play with one another as if they were all part of the same happy family.

I’ve been a Windows user since 95 (Windows 95, that is) and it’s been anything but a treat. Hardly anything works as it should the first time around. …

While everyone else in the blogesphere is posting about how great OS X Tiger is – I find myself, yet again complaining about Microsoft. Actually, this time it’s more pointing and laughing than complaining. Check this out…

I saw a post on Neowin about the new Windows Messenger. First off, I didn’t even realize that was still around… and what’s the point since MSN is obviously dominating the IM market. In any case, the lack of screenshots and documentation followed by reading all of the positive feedback enticed me to download it. After validating my
