Every year since I started this blog, I’ve followed up E3 with my own reflections on the major platforms and up-coming games. Last year I wrote at length on the hardware and software Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony‘s brought to the event. But, I’ve decided to skip this year. I really didn’t see a whole lot that impressed me. I feel re-assured that the Xbox 360 is the platform with the most promise, both now and in future, but Nintendo and Sony really failed to impress me yet again. So much so, that I …

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything new! The dust on my blog almost matches that of my Wii, almost. There’s been a lot going on and I’ve missed several opportunities to talk about current issues that are now ancient history. As I was going through my feed reader this evening, a few articles caught my eye and I thought I would take a moment to touch on some of them. I kind of have an informal standard of single category posts around here, but that’s all going to shit right about now.…

We’re nearing the end of our third week with the Nintendo Wii and it’s seen a fair bit of use. There have been stretches of 3 or 4 days in a row that it hasn’t been touched, though. I can’t say I’ve gone longer than 24 hours without turning on my Xbox 360 in the year that I’ve had it. So that says something right there. If you haven’t caught on by now, I’m going to get into some of the things I don’t like or down right hate about the Wii. Fanboys (and probably …

On the eve of my wife’s 28th birthday, we decided to get a little silly. She’s been joking about turning 28 and being all serious from then on. We didn’t have much planned for tonight – caught up on some TV that we hadn’t gotten to yet this week. This week’s episode of Lost was great, BTW. About time, too! And The Black Donnellys is looking like it’s going to be my new favourite show. But anyway, a pretty quiet, relaxing evening spent on the couch with a drink in hand. Once Lost was over, …

The Wii’s been getting a fair amount of use since I picked it up nearly 2 weeks ago. Admittedly, a bit less recently since GRAW 2 has pretty much completely stolen the thunder. None the less, we’ve just about worn down the batteries in one of the Wiimotes. On my lunch break the other day I took a trip down to the local Best Buy to grab a couple rechargeable battery packs. To my surprise, aside from the Wifi USB adapter and the different controllers and cables, Nintendo has no accessories available. However, they were …

Things have been so hectic lately, and yet I feel like I’m hardly moving in any direction at all. I’ve definitely been feeling like I’m living to work, as apposed to the opposite which I much prefer. It truly is a hard cycle to break – one that I’ve not even begun to figure out. It’s one of those “you know what needs to be done but can’t seem to bring yourself to do it” situations. And all the while I’ve been telling myself that I’m almost there. Just about in the clear when I can have my evenings and weekends back.

While Sony failed to impress with their lack of innovation and effort, Nintendo came out swinging and left me with a huge smile on my face. Even though the majority of the games they’ve been showcasing don’t appeal to me in the least, I’m still extremely stoked on the Nintendo Wii and the direction Nintendo is headed in the next generation of console gaming. It didn’t take long to get over the name (Wii) and even less time to convince me that the Wiimote/nunchaku controller is the way to go. It’s apparent that Nintendo has a clear vision of where they’re going and they’re serious about changing the way we game.
