Killzone 2 Was Worth the Wait

This is where I start raving about Killzone 2 and my readership that prefers Xbox 360 either turns their head or rolls their eyes. Let me be the first to say that up until about the beginning of February, I had the same immediate reaction to Killzone 2. After the reviews starting pouring in, most of which stayed above the 9/10 fold, I started paying closer attention and began to get excited about the game Sony’s been touting since long before the PlayStation 3 has even been in our hands. It seems the wait…

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin 4

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

It’s been over 2 years since I played and loved the original F.E.A.R.. Since then, there have been a couple expansion packs which were handled by a different developer which never really lived up to the first game. The console ports of the original game also seemed to fall short and admittedly, this contributed to my lack of enthusiasm towards F.E.A.R. 2 leading up to its release. Once it was released and I had read some solid reviews from writers that had played through the original game, I…

Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway 4.5

Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway

I couldn’t have been more thrilled to reprise the role of Staff Sergeant Matt Baker of the 101st Airborne Division in Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway. After all, it’s been years since a truly great WWII shooter has graced the market. And while the genre has definitely been over-saturated, I’m always willing to make room for one more in my collection if it’s of the stature of the Brothers in Arms series.

A Strange Turn of Events

Over the past month or so, I’ve found that my schedule has taken a more hectic and unpredictable turn. Obviously, having a baby around really shakes thing up and it’s pretty hard to plan anything. Whether that be an outing on the weekend, or simply planning to catch up on some TV or gaming in the evening. Whatever I end up doing, I need to be able to drop it at any given second. I’ve found this taking a strange toll on how I play games. I feel like whatever time I have to…

Branching Out, While Reaching Out

It’s been a couple years now, since the CSS Reboot that lead to the internets knowing who the heck “Matt Brett” is. I’ve done a lot in that time. Produced dozens of ramblings about video games, and life in general. Made a name for myself as a decent designer. Launched a couple of projects that made a pretty big splash. And kept everyone up-to-date on my personal life via Twitter and Flickr. Along the way, I’ve crossed paths with people from all over the world via all…

How-To: Capture Xbox 360 Video Footage on an iMac

The most frequently asked question I’ve received over the past 9 months is, “How do you capture Xbox 360 footage on your iMac?” With 2-5 emails or Flickr messages coming in per week, I figured it was time to publish a How-To article. It’s really not an easy or obvious process, which is why it’s such a hot topic. But it’s not impossible or expensive. It’s simply a matter of knowing what you need to get the job done. While I’m using an Xbox 360, the same steps can be followed for any other console…

Guitar Hero II 4

Guitar Hero 2 is the Raddest!

Some time over the past month I went from turning my nose up at the thought of a guitar rhythm game to being totally stoked on it. I really don’t know what the turning point was, but the past few days leading up to the release of Guitar Hero 2 have been torture! I was probably the first one in my town to own one as I was walking out of Toys R Us with my bundle at 10:03am (all the local stores open at 10am) on release day. I didn’t get to play much…

Tony Hawk's Project 8 3.5

Tony Hawk’s Project 8: Review

Project 8 puts a rad new spin on an old series that’s gone downhill over the past couple releases. Despite constant framerate issues and the occasional stupid/silly goal (fucking Bam!), THP8 is a solid and very fun game.

The Good: Character models look amazing. Absolutely massive open environment is lots of fun to skate in. Pedestrians cheer you on as you do runs down the city streets to gain “stokens” (rad!). “Nail the Trick” is just as cool as it looks in the trailer and doesn’t get old. Career mode lets you decide how you…

Need for Speed: Carbon 3.5

Need for Speed Carbon: Review

Even with its faults, NFS Carbon is still a very fun and exciting racing game.

The Good: Looks and sounds great. Super intense music during cop chases and canyon duels. Cutscenes with real actors look a lot better than that of Need for Speed Most Wanted. Great flow through the first few events in career mode. Some pretty rad unlockable cars that I haven’t seen in other games.

The Bad: Unlocking cars is slow until you hit about 65% in career mode. Clunky menus in the customization sections make it a little frustrating. Some environments…

Call of Duty 3 3

Call of Duty 3: Review

Being a huge fan of the Call of Duty series from the beginning, I was extremely disappointed to discover that COD3 is not up to par with its predecessors and feels like it would be a better fit as part of the Medal of Honor series.

The Good: It’s a step up from COD2 in terms of visuals. Ability to cook grenades and throw enemy grenades back before they explode. Lots of dudes on screen.

The Bad: Extremely linear to the point where it almost feels like you’re being lead by hand. Tons of invisible…
