What I Was Listening to 15 Years Ago: 2010 Edition

We’re nearly two weeks into 2011, and here I am publishing a post that I couldn’t find time for in 2010. The concept struck me some time last summer, and I believe it’s simply too good to let slip by. While I could have started with 1996, 1995 was a terrific year for music, and one that helped diversify my tastes. Even now, 15 years later, I still listen to many of the albums I saved my paper route money to buy when I was just a wee lad.

R.I.P. Derrick Plourde

March 30th was a sad day for the Fat Wreck Chords family as we learned about the passing of Derrick Plourde. Derrick played drums on the very first Fat release, Duh, and we consider him one of the founders of the label as well as a great friend. His profound talents can be heard on all of the early Lagwagon albums and also on recordings from Mad Caddies, The Ataris, and Bad Astronaut. Above all, Derrick was a great guy who will be sorely missed and will always remain a member of the Fat family.

The first time I listened to this album, I swear I was transported back to 1995. Looking back on so many great memories; my first big show – Rancid with AFI at the Warehouse, endless days of skateboarding and rocking my first band. So rad!

I will admit, I haven’t been super into Lagwagon since the original drummer left and being disappointed by their mediocre performance at Warped Tour ’97. But that hasn’t stopped me from loving this record and has actually got me listening to their newer albums with a new found fondness.…
