Tucker Max is many things (yes, an asshole being one of them), but one thing is for sure – he is one busy dude. He has a lot going on, all the time, and needed a website where his fans and followers could keep tabs on it all. Previously, he had separate sites for his stories, his books, his movie, and so on. The main goal of this redesign, was to pull it all under one roof, give him the ability to manage content on his own, and maintain the style and attitude that is

The latest spinoff (pun intended) from the team at Comic Book Resources, is Spinoff Online. I was brought in shortly after launch to beef up the front-end, and to make publishing easier for its many authors. Some familiar style elements from CBR are present in this iteration of Spinoff, along with some of the latest CSS frills to add an extra level of flare for those with modern browsers.

Not only was EGC the first site I’ve worked on which contains adult content, but it was the first project I’ve done that is largely powered by Pods CMS. Thanks to the help of Jonathan Christopher’s excellent articles on Pods, I was able to quickly jump in and produce a technical site with an elegant admin which is a breeze for my client to maintain. Normally, projects of this nature are of little interest. But I saw an opportunity to take my WordPress development skills in a new direction, and have since launched…

One of my personal favourites, PictureCorrect was the second large photography blog I designed in 2009. It was a challenge to come up with a style that was entirely different from DPS, considering much of the content is similar in nature. But the end result is something both my client and I were extremely pleased with. PC makes fairly heavy use of Cufon for font replacement in the headings.

I’ve never smoked a cigar in my life (really!), but was excited to have the opportunity to work with a group of cigar enthusiasts on their blog redesign. The biggest challenge here, was maintaining the dominant dark blues, while presenting the content on a light background. I went a little crazy with textures through-out the design, which was in an effort to make the site feel more authentic, and real. Flat colours on a screen just don’t deliver that same sense of something existing in our world.

I couldn’t have been more thrilled when I was asked to redesign Makeup Geek. I love working with feminine colours, and given the quality of the content and massive following, it showed lots of potential. Working closely with Marlena, I executed a design that is feminine, bold, and sexy, without being too “girly” or cheesy. Since the initial launch, I’ve jumped back on board to help skin Makeup Geek’s third party store to match the rest of the site.

Music is what got me into web design in the first place, but I haven’t had many opportunities to work on music related projects, since having left my job at MuchMusic back in 2005. I had a lot of fun working on this Irish legend’s much needed website redesign, and delivered a site that his management team could update from top to bottom in their browser. I had some fun with fixed positioning – keeping the navigation at the top of the browser window when you scroll, and John’s alternating photo and logo in the…

Redesigning Darren Rowse’s largest project was both exciting and terrifying. The site had out-grown its previous design, so there was lots of room for improvement, and plenty of new content to squeeze in as well. Dividing the site into prominent sections was also one of the main goals, which was achieved largely by focused colour scheme changes depending on the parent section of the content you’re viewing at the time. With a combined subscriber base of nearly half a million, I think it’s safe to say that DPS is the project in my portfolio…

Without a doubt, the largest site I’ve worked on. CBR was initially launched in 2008, and has seen constant growth with new sections being added or overhauled regularly, which have mostly been handled personally. In May 2010 I revisited some of the global elements and gave the site a bit of a visual refresh, but the main style has remained in tact since its ’08 launch. So far in 2010, we’ve added an events calendar, and a comic books Twitter directory.
