I TOTALLY agree with you on the matter of Skate. That game totally shits on THPS and I've also played the demo through more times than I can remember. It's exactly like watching a skate video only you're the person doing the sick looking moves not just a viewer!!

@Ronald: Unfortunately, we don't have any game rental services like GameFly in Canada. I don't think I'd be too into that anyway as I tend to have a need to play games as soon as they come out. Couldn't deal with the waiting.

@Jdjohnson: Yeah, I think Turok is going to surprise a lot of people. It's looking really good. My daughter loves dinosaurs and totally wants to watch me play it. :P

@Rockers Delight: Weird about your first comment. Not sure what happened there. Maybe some botched HTML caused WordPress to eat it?

@BPAndrew: I wish I saw that PGR4 race you did. I ended up doing cone challenges and kudos vs time on tracks from PGR3 = boooring.

@Timothy/Rockers Delight: I don't think it's really a matter of me taking Rock Band too seriously. I don't know - the Guitar Hero buzz wore off really quick and I have little to no interest in it any more. Now Rock Band comes along and it's basically a copy of that, so I'm even less excited about it. Which is pretty weird, actually. I was super into GH2 when I first got it and for a good month straight I played it. Then I just stopped and any time I picked it up, I played a song or 2 and that was it.

And yeah, the drum kit for Rock Band has a bass pedal.

@Paul: You summed up the TH games perfectly.

@Maguire: Oh nice, good to hear you're heading back home. Is that temporary or for good? Didn't you meet a lady down there?

And if you pick up the Rock Band set, I'm totally coming over to check it out!

Let me just start this by saying that I am sooooo mad about being here in Australia and not having my 360 since Bioshock and the skate demo have come out, among other things. For a while there it was looking like I would be missing the Halo 3 launch and that I just cannot have. I had my Xbox and Halo on launch day and I waited in line for a midnight launch for Halo 2 for almost two hours in the freezing cold, so getting Halo 3 at launch is kind of important to me. But it appears as though I'll be back home for that, which is exciting.

Aaand, I will most likely be picking up Rock Band and the whole band set, so I'll be looking your way for some Extreme rockage.

@Rockers Delight: Good point! That's why I'd also like to give it a try. This is just my first impression. If we ever get one, I'm pretty sure that we'll be sticking to it for an awfully long time. Heck, the game might just be our friend! It's sometimes nice to try something different that is actually fun.

Being a fan of the Tony Hawk series, I was really looking forward to Skate, and when I got the demo, I played it numerous times, and still do. I can't wait 'til it comes out. It's a nice change of pace from having to do things like wallride the side of a building, ollie off of that onto a powerline and ride that across the city to finally grind on top of a water tower. It's a lot more realistic, and somehow more dignified in the process.

Hmm. About the whole Guitar Hero/Rock Band realism issue. It's just a game and not meant to be realistic. Sure, it's meant to be authentic enough to pass off as a guitar for a game, but not a means of musical practice to anyone. I too am a musician (a drummer... Seems to be a few drummers here, eh?) and yeah, the Rock Band kit looks like a kids toy as does the guitar for GH, but Im pretty sure that won't stop it doing what it was built for - some easy going fun!

Most guitarists (such as my dad) doesn't like GH - or any other type of something that involves false or simulation of guitars - which kills the real challenge of playing a real one. He says that nothing beats playing a real guitar. It doesn't even help the player really learn how to play it.

As for drummers (such as myself), from what I saw in the picture you provided, it isn't even close to the real setup! What's that, a baby's toy? Damn! Maybe if I was sitting infront of it, I would have totally smoked it. Now even you - a drummer - would tend to do so right? I'll stick to a closer arcade version we have here in the Phillipines, it's worth playing than that. Dude, I can even do a drum roll within milliseconds with that thing!

"I absolutely cannot stand karaoke." - Matt

Wait? Karaoke? Get outta here! No... seriously? Are you sure those dudes knew that you took their photo?

Maybe it's a little dorky to play this infront of many people but it's good when you and your friends have nothing to do. Man, I'd love to see a band videotape themselves playing this game and upload it on YouTube, I'll totally dig it!

But it does seem like you had a good time. Bad for me, I'm not into gaming that much anymore, I retired from hardcore gaming 3 years ago and focused on more geeky and artistic stuff. LOL!

Theres me going around the block in the Atom - man that was a BLAST!

re: Halo multiplayer - the forge was pretty cool, it was total mayham with all the kids playing when I was on so I didn't stay long. However it was fun as hell spawning banshees and throwing them at people :P

re: PGR4 - the new environment effects were pretty cool - I did a race /w a storm driving a Subaru 22b and it looked incredible from the in-car view.

re: ProStreet - it was ok but you could tell it was an early build... I didn't like how it handled and there were frame rate issues.

re: Skate, the fullgame was awesome to see - it seemed to have way more pixel shading going on than the demo, can't wait to own this game either!

That was a great day!
