My windows machine hasn't crashed in two years and that includes countless days of running Photoshop, Firefox, Outlook, Dreamweaver, winamp, and Illustrator concurrently.

Fluke?

Steve Jobs is a frightening cult leader presiding over a group of maniacs who believe that choosing a different operating system, and paying twice as much for the privilage, somehow makes them an individual.

Being a designer who uses a PC is thinking different. Come back to us Brett. Shed your new candy coated world and get back to reality!

It was a huge pain in the ass, but still worth it.

I decided not to mess with my boot drive, so I installed it natively on an external USB HD that I have. Then I discovered that OSX86 doesn't like to boot off my external HD, so I took it out of the external enclosure and plugged it into my motherboard directly.

It booted and promptly gave me the OSX equivalent of a blue screen of death.

I safebooted and found it was hanging when trying to load the video driver (it shipped with only the video drivers required for the OSX Dev Kit hardware). I rooted around in various OSX help sites until I found that if you just delete all the video drivers, it boots fine.

So it booted properly in the end, but I couldn't adjust resolution or refresh rate, and network and sound didn't work. And neither did Rosetta or programs that required SSE3 (like iTunes).

But it still looked mighty nice and was fun to play with for a while.

Justin: you actually got it running on your machine? That's rad! I had a look at what you need to do to get it up and running and decided not to bother. Did it take a lot of work and fucking around?

So jealous right now.

Now that I've had a glimpse of life with OSX, running a hacked version of the x86-compatible version on my PC, I'm getting desperate.

I might have to buy one.

Tomorrow.

Hahaha, give it time, macs fuck up as bad if not worse than a well maintained windows system. I've had extensive time on both, and they both suck for their own reasons.

Either way, I'm glad that you're stoked

It suuuuuure is! I'm loving my little Mac. I'm surprised at the power of it too. I've been working with Photoshop and Dreamweaver consecutively for days at a time and it runs just fine. The occasional slow down, but that's to be expected.
