I share you pain. I HATE the memory unit! You think they would, oh, I don't know, add another level of confirmation when deleting a profile. My GTA IV and Burnout Paradise save files are gone. I can not believe it. I put over 110 hours in Burnout too. I was sooo close to getting 100% completion. Its times like this I LOVE Bungie for having online servers that track your stats and game saves. I lost nothing in Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4.

Well that was accidental, so at least you only have yourself to blame. What happened with me, however, was possibly way worse:
I'd had my x360 for a few months, and then got the wireless adapter so I could hook it up to Xbox live. However, when I did that, it created a new gamer profile for the Xbox live. New profile = no saves. And, you can't transfer them across cause you won't have any of the achievements etc. I called tech support, and they said there's nothin you can do about it.
Microsoft will burn in hell forever, no?

Dude, that seriously sucks. Hopefully Microsoft will start mandating a more in-depth, online imaging of your gamer profile. I've noticed that both Gears of War and Marvel Ultimate Alliance save certain things online; however, the scope is totally different for each of them.

Dennis Couglin - Exacly that happed to me too, and it was the day before christmas. Also while I was playing Gears of Wars. It was the worst timing .. had to spend all my christmas vacation without my Xbox and I couldn't even play all my new games, I got as christmas presents :/

Lost all my saved games too, and I had completed Saints Row about 95%. I was so sad :(

That is a nightmare!

Had something slightly similar (but nowhere near as bad) happen to me last month with Gears of War.

Was playing the Campaign one night (halfway through Hardcore) and the screen just froze and the 360 made some kind of screeching noise.

Turned it off and on - and the 3 red lights of death appeared.

Called Microsoft, went thru the usual process and now have a new 360 back at home. Except I have lost all of my progress in Gears.

D'oh!

@ Matt: Yes, XBOX Live can store gamesave and profile information. I once had a friend come over to my house to play CoD2 on the XBOX 360. He logged into his XBOX Live account on my box. His CoD2 profile on my box was exactly like the one on his box. He (having completed the game) had all of the level unlocked on MY box. Even the same weird-ass controller setup was downloaded from XBOX Live.

Not sure how many games are using that feature, though.

Thanks for the offer MarkMS. I actually just started playing GoW through again last night, this time with my wife again on Insane (her idea). To my surprise, my previous progress was still in tact. I'm not quite sure how, but all chapters have the Insane icon beside them and my cogtag count is 30/30. Interesting. I wonder if the game checks your Achievements and updates your local profile accordingly? That would be rad, and totally makes sense actually.
